A University of Michigan student faces authorized felony charges after attacking a conservative commentator on campus, according to Breitbart News. Video footage captured the student pushing the activist to the ground during a free speech event, Breitbart reported. The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that prosecutors have authorized multiple counts against the student, The College Fix reported.
“We thoroughly reviewed the evidence that was submitted to us”
Alyssa Fountain, an administrative assistant at the prosecutor’s office, stated that the student will face one count of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a police officer alongside two counts of assault or assault and battery, according to The College Fix. The student also resisted authorities and struggled while being placed into handcuffs, The College Fix detailed.
“There is no court date at this time, but a felony warrant for these charges will be issued by the court and a court date set once she has been arraigned on the charges”
Following the altercation, the school released a statement emphasizing that violence would not be accepted on campus, Breitbart reported.
“Physical violence has no place on our campus”
University administrators also stated that actions that threaten safety or interfere with free expression will face meaningful consequences under school policies, according to Breitbart News.
