A former spokesman for Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood celebrated Democrat Abdul El-Sayed's election to the U.S. Senate as a template for political influence, according to Breitbart. Breitbart reported that Rep. Ilhan Omar similarly cheered the Michigan victory, which handed retiring Democrat Sen. Gary Peters' seat to El-Sayed over Republican challenger Mike Rogers.
Breitbart stated that former Brotherhood official Abdel Mawgoud al-Dardiri contributed $500 to the Democrat's campaign and proclaimed the triumph an achievement for the Islamic world. During the race, President Donald Trump labeled El-Sayed a jihadist Muslim Brotherhood member, according to Breitbart, though the incoming senator dismissed any ties.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that relatives of El-Sayed have ties to the Islamist movement, and federal authorities previously raided a group connected to his father over claims it funneled money to Saddam Hussein. The outlet added that Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens crossed party lines to endorse Rogers before the general election.

Breitbart reported that Omar celebrated the outcome after El-Sayed secured around 52.5 percent of the vote compared to 45.5 percent for Rogers.
