Police in New Hampshire arrested a 70-year-old poet Wednesday morning after he allegedly struck a teenage Turning Point Action worker in the face outside an active polling location, according to Fox News. The Laconia Police Department stated that officers took the suspect into custody following a Tuesday confrontation at Woodland Heights Elementary School, as reported by The Blaze. Video footage of the altercation accumulated two million views after capturing the older man shouting and backhanding the young volunteer, the outlet added.
According to a police press release cited by the New York Post, the man approached the informational booth to read a poem about wealthy individuals before an argument escalated into physical violence. Laconia Police Chief Matthew Canfield told Fox News Digital that local authorities had never encountered the suspect prior to the incident.
“We’re not familiar with him, meaning we’ve had no prior contacts”
Chief Canfield explained to WMUR-TV that the heated political confrontation continued to escalate until it turned physical, as detailed by The Blaze.
“I think that this gentleman was very heated and very opinionated in his viewpoint, which led to him becoming agitated, and it just built and built and built until he eventually assaulted him.”
The incident occurred 14 months after Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University, Fox News noted.
